PRETERISMS TIMELY QUESTION

  • May. 7th, 2008 at 11:27 AM

TIME - DOES IT MEAN ANYTHING IN THE SCRIPTURES?  My previous musing was to make my readers think about what SOON means.  I was quoting from Hebrews 10:37 "For in just a very little while, 'He who is coming will come and will not delay.'"    Throughout the Scriptures we find what is referred to by preterists as "time statements."    I always wondered why Christ and the writers of Scripture would promise that Christ was coming SOON - and yet after about 2,000 years after Christ's last promise so many preachers are proclaiming that NOW is when Christ is coming SOON.  One Bible prophecy magazine proclaimed that Saddam Hussein was the 666 of Revelation - Saddam is now dead.  Denominations have been created in the past based on their leaders proclamation that Christ was returning SOON - like in 1917.  I'll talk about these "false prophets" in future editions of Peasearian Musings.  Today, I want you to think further about what Hebrews 10:37 meant.  While you're thinking about that tell me why Revelation 11 starts right out "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to show his servants what must soon take place."  Think about  Jesus Christ's last promise a lie - "He who testifies to these things says 'Yes I am comings soon.'"  Indeed, can God tell time?    Don Preston has written a booklet called "Can God Tell Time."  To order this booklet and to read Preston's on-line articles I would encourage you to visit his website: www.eschatology.org
Watch for more musings - SOON.
